- Water: one of the reasons why you become constipated is via dehydration. The intestines produce mucus, which keeps the stools lubricated and moving through the system. If you're dehydrated, the body doesn’t make as much lubrication and faeces can become stuck. Furthermore, when dehydrated, the colon and intestines will try to squeeze as much water out of your food as it can, which then dries out the waste product even further.
- Prunes: prunes contain a lot of fibre. They contain soluble fibre, which draws water into your waste, keeping it soft and pliable. They also contain non-soluble fibre, which acts like a broom and sweeps out waste products from the digestive system. Prunes, especially prune juice, can really speed things up.
